One Nation’s “Stop the Rorts” policy claims Medicare is losing up to $3 billion annually to fraud.
However, the Independent Review of Medicare Integrity and Compliance (April 2023) draws a different conclusion: most of this leakage comes from non compliance, not intentional fraud. The review estimates non compliance at $1.5 to $3 billion — a figure consistent with earlier studies.
By presenting non compliance as fraud, One Nation is not reflecting the evidence accurately. This selective use of data raises legitimate concerns about transparency and credibility.
It is reasonable to ask: Can a party be trusted when it chooses only the facts that support its argument?
